Matt Hughes himself says this on the UFC 112 Countdown where Renzo says that Matt Hughes beat Royce because he knows BJJ and Matt Hughes said and even explained how his American Wrestling was what he used to own and destroy Royce Gracie.

Renzo is 43 years old and although he does have decent stand-up Matt Hughes like he said has way better cardio and the Gracies are known to have suspect cardio which is very true and that is where Hughes will takedown Renzo,use his wrestling and push the pace on 43 year old Renzo and get him tired in which point Matt Hughes will do what he does best and that's out muscle and out wrestle and neutralize Renzo's BJJ and give him some gNp and do him like he did BJ Penn in their 2nd fight.
